Public Liability Insurance for Building Companies

Building work is hazardous, involving heights, half-built structures, dangerous materials and environments. Public Liability Insurance covers members of the public for death, injury or damage to their property as a result of a building company's activities and must be held by all builders. Most builders will have up to £5m cover with some having more depending on the dangers of their business.

Employers Liability Insurance for Building Companies

Any building company that has empoyees, including casual labour, must be covered by Employers Liability Insurance to compensate for death or injury caused to any employees whilst they are carrying out building work for the business. The minimum legal level of cover is £5m.

Self Build Insurance

Self Build site insurance is pretty much the same as, employers’ liability and public liability insurance and is essential for anyone planning their own extension, renovation, conversion or new build. An injured person, whether it be a worker, a friend lending a hand or child injured will stop work on site and involve legal costs and fines.

The Health and Safety Executive may prosecute and involve a legal action. Site insurance or Employers liability insurance will cover you defending any action. It will could be a criminal not civil action which means that any penalty or fine imposed is not insurable. So take your health and safety legal responsibilities seriously.

Public Liability Insurance and Idemnity Insurance for Tradesmen

All tradesman including builders, roofers, bricklayers and joiners need Indemnity Insurance. If you are involved in a building project which goes wrong, for example:- remove a wall which weakens the building structure, you could be liable. Public Liability Insurance will cover any compensation claims from your disgruntled client.
